this evergreen,

a symbol of

D E A T H

in Renaissance literature

and a cancer fighter

in the medical world.

The drug

T A X O L

prescribed to treat

breastlungovariancancer,

was first synthesized

from a compound

in the tree’s

barkandneedles.
